GODFREY KAWEESA has risen through the Judiciary ranks, from a Grade One Magistrate to a Deputy Registrar of the High Court. He holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Laws (LLM) from Makerere University and a Master’s in Management Studies (Public Administration and Management) from the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) in Kampala. As President of the Uganda Judicial Officers’ Association (UJOA) for four years, he achieved significant milestones, including initiatives to bridge the gap between justice and economic development by promoting agriculture and industrial production within the Judiciary. He has served on numerous Judiciary committees, championing policies that uphold fair and equitable workplace rights. Kaweesa was instrumental in advocating for increased funding for Uganda’s Judiciary and the enactment of the Administration of the Judiciary Act, 2020. A staunch advocate for judicial independence, he believes that a strong and autonomous Judiciary is essential for good governance and the rule of law. He also served as a Council member of the East African Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association (EAMJA) for four years, contributing to key achievements such as the enactment of the East Africa Gender Policy. Additionally, he has made six presentations at the annual Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association (CMJA) conferences across the globe. Currently, he is a member of the Steering Committee of the Global Judicial Support Network (GJSN). Kaweesa is a devout Christian who seeks to live by the two greatest commandments: to love God and to love one’s neighbour, aspiring to lead a life grounded in these principles.
